The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (SLEDB, commonly known as the EDB) is the premier state organization dealing with the promotion and development of exports. It was established in 1979 under the Sri Lanka Export Development Act No. 40 of 1979, and now functions under the Ministry of Industry & Commerce.
As the state institution responsible for the promotion, development and facilitation of Sri Lankafs exports, the EDB provides know-how and assistance and facilitates the effective co-ordination of all state and private sector organizations, associations, industries and manufacturing enterprises and individuals involved in export Sri Lankafs high quality products and services to overseas markets.
Main Activities of the EDB are
Assisting in the improvement of the macro/micro economic environment.
Formulating and implementing the National Export Development Plan, Sectoral Plans, etc.
Integrated supply/technical/quality/packaging/design development programmes.
Market research/surveys to identify market opportunities.
Market development and promotion to expand existing markets and to enter new/emerging markets.
Regional and SME development programmes.
Providing market information and e-Commerce services.
Resolving problems/constraints faced by exporters to achieve trade efficiency.
Improving quality of export support services.
Working with international/local trade support services.
Implementing skills, entrepreneurship, training and development programmes.
